A WOOD CARVING ART GALLERY BORN FROM THE TEMPLE CARVER’S CHISEL
Inami City was built by expert woodcarvers whose magnificent craftsmanship has its roots in the reconstruction of Zuisenji Temple.
Woodcarving workshops and merchants' houses line the cobbled streets, and the air is filled with the resounding clanking of wooden mallets and the rich aromas of wood.
Carvings of figures, including the Seven Lucky Gods and the Twelve Chinese Zodiac Animals, can be found all around as if on display in an art gallery.
In spring, festival floats and lion dances decorated with Inami woodcarvings parade through the streets in the hope of peace, prosperity and a bountiful harvest.
Inami's exceptional woodcarving skill and artistry have won him recognition throughout Japan. Inami is a stronghold of woodcarving culture, and woodcarving is central to people's lives. the city.
